Privacy Policy

01 Scope and who is responsible

This Privacy Policy applies to the LearnVela website and the LearnVela services available through it. It explains LearnVela's current data practices and should be read together with the Terms of Service.

LearnVela is solely owned and created by Divyansh Bamel. For the purposes of applicable privacy law, LearnVela determines why and how the personal data described in this Policy is processed unless a third-party service acts independently under its own policy.

02 Information LearnVela processes

Depending on how you use LearnVela, the service may process:

• Account information: name or display name, email address, account identifier, sign-in provider, email-confirmation status, role, and authentication/session information needed to operate your account.
• Learning progress: quiz attempts, scores, chapters and concepts tested, incorrect or weak concepts, revision activity, streak information, recent-question fingerprints, and related progress data used to personalise study features.
• Study inputs: questions you type, selected subjects or chapters, answers you submit to quizzes, and text extracted from an image when you choose to use the image-question feature.
• Technical and security information: information that hosting, authentication, and security infrastructure may process to deliver and protect the service, such as IP address, timestamps, request information, browser/device information, and error or security logs.

LearnVela is not designed to request payment-card information, government identification numbers, precise location, health information, or similarly sensitive information from learners. Please do not place unnecessary sensitive personal information in a study question.

03 Guest mode and browser storage

You can use LearnVela in guest mode without creating an account. Guest study progress is stored in local browser storage on that device. LearnVela's cloud progress database is not used for guest progress.

Theme preferences, draft or study state, and signed-in cache data may also be stored locally where needed for usability and resilience. Clearing browser site data can remove device-only information. Local browser data may remain accessible to other people who use the same browser profile or device, so use a separate device/profile where privacy matters.

04 Signed-in accounts and cloud progress

If you create or use an account, authentication is provided through Supabase. LearnVela uses the verified account identifier to keep each learner's progress separate. Signed-in learning progress is stored in a protected Supabase database row associated with that account and may also be cached locally so the interface can remain usable during temporary network problems.

LearnVela uses this information to restore your progress across sessions, calculate learning statistics, identify concepts that may need revision, reduce immediate quiz repetition, and personalise recommendations. Administrative account/status information is restricted to authorised owner or administrator roles and protected by server-side access controls.

05 Google and email authentication

You may sign in using email/password or, when enabled, Google. If you choose Google sign-in, Google and Supabase process information required to complete authentication under their own terms and privacy policies. LearnVela receives the account information made available through that sign-in flow, such as your verified account identifier, email address, and display name.

Passwords are handled by the authentication provider; LearnVela's application code does not need to store your plain-text password.

06 Ask a Doubt and external knowledge sources

Questions submitted to Ask a Doubt are processed to identify relevant Grade 9 textbook material and generate a study response. LearnVela first attempts to answer from its indexed NCERT corpus. If the question falls outside supported textbook material, the server may send a cleaned or derived search query to Wikipedia to retrieve a reference answer. The interface identifies external-source answers rather than presenting them as NCERT material.

Do not include personal information in a study question unless it is genuinely necessary.

07 Image questions and on-device text extraction

When you attach a supported PNG, JPG, or WebP image to Ask a Doubt, the current web feature attempts to extract visible text locally in your browser using on-device text detection. In that current flow, the selected image is previewed locally and is not uploaded to LearnVela's server. If text is detected, the extracted text is placed into the question field for you to review before submitting it.

If your browser does not support on-device text detection, LearnVela asks you to type the visible question manually. Text you choose to submit is then processed like any other Ask a Doubt query. Future image-processing features that materially change this behaviour should be reflected in an updated version of this Policy before deployment.

08 Why LearnVela uses information

LearnVela processes information only for purposes reasonably connected to operating the learning service, including:

• creating, securing, authenticating, and recovering accounts;
• answering questions and generating revision notes, quizzes, explanations, and feedback;
• saving and synchronising learner progress;
• personalising revision, difficulty, weak-concept support, and question variety;
• preventing misuse, enforcing access controls, rate-limiting abusive requests, and protecting the service;
• debugging, maintaining, and improving reliability and accessibility; and
• meeting legal obligations and responding to valid legal requests where required.

09 Service providers and disclosures

LearnVela relies on third-party infrastructure to operate. Depending on the feature used, relevant providers may include Supabase for authentication/database services, Google for optional Google sign-in, Vercel for production hosting, and Wikimedia/Wikipedia for labelled outside-textbook reference lookups.

These providers may process information under their own terms and privacy policies. LearnVela may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, investigate abuse or security incidents, or establish or defend legal rights.

LearnVela does not itself sell personal data and does not use learner personal data for targeted advertising.

10 Data retention

Guest progress remains in the browser until it is cleared, overwritten, or otherwise removed by the browser/device. Signed-in account and progress information may be retained while the account is active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, protect its security, resolve disputes, comply with law, or maintain legitimate records.

Where a valid deletion request applies, LearnVela will delete or de-identify covered information unless retention is required or permitted by applicable law. Backup, security, or infrastructure copies may take additional time to expire through ordinary provider retention cycles.

11 Security

LearnVela uses measures intended to protect learner information, including authenticated access, per-user database controls, row-level security for learner progress, protected administrator roles, HTTPS, and server-side authorisation for privileged account information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, and users should protect their own account credentials and devices.

If LearnVela becomes aware of a personal-data breach, it will take reasonable steps to contain and investigate the issue and make notifications where required by applicable law.

12 Children and younger learners

LearnVela is designed for Grade 9 learning, so many users may be under 18. Younger learners should involve a parent or lawful guardian when creating an account or sharing personal information. Where applicable law requires verifiable parental or guardian consent before a particular processing activity, LearnVela will require the legally necessary permission before carrying out that covered processing.

LearnVela does not itself use learner personal data for targeted advertising. Learning-progress features are intended only to support study, such as remembering quiz performance, avoiding immediate question repetition, and identifying concepts for revision.

If you are a parent or lawful guardian and believe a child has provided personal information in a way that should be corrected or deleted, contact LearnVela using the contact information below.

13 Your choices and requests

Subject to applicable law and reasonable identity verification, you may ask LearnVela to provide information about personal data associated with your account, correct inaccurate account information, erase eligible information, or address a privacy grievance. You can also stop using an account and clear device-local site data through your browser.

Where processing is based on consent and applicable law gives you a right to withdraw it, withdrawal will apply going forward and may mean that a feature requiring that information can no longer be provided.

14 International infrastructure

Some service providers may process or store information in countries other than the country where you live. LearnVela uses such providers only as part of operating the service and will follow applicable restrictions on cross-border processing as and when they apply.

15 Changes to this Policy

LearnVela may update this Privacy Policy when features, providers, or legal requirements change. The current revision date will always appear at the top. If a change materially alters how personal information is used, LearnVela will provide an appropriate notice where required.
